Bear's Anecdote - Years ago, Bear's mother sent Jodie and Bear a box of recipes. Here is one from the box. This recipe was the root of Susan Vahey's Famous Clove Cookies!
3/4 c. shortening
1-1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs beaten
2-1/4c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 sq. unsweetened baking chocolate, melted and cooled.
1/2 c. chopped almonds.
Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and spices, and set aside.
Cream sugar and shortening together.
Add well-beaten eggs.
Add sifted ingredients to batter.
Add chocolate and almonds.
Shape dough into 2 rolls about 2-inches in diameter.
Wrap rolls in waxed paper and chill for 24 hrs.
Cut into slices onto ungreased cookie sheet
Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
Immediately remove cookies from cookie sheet onto towel to cool.
